Women's Basketball Falls to Oshkosh, 62-47

Box Score

The women's basketball team had their six-game winning streak snapped with a 62-47 loss to UW-Oshkosh at the Karges Center Saturday night.

Although going into halftime trailing only by two, poor shooting in the second half allowed the Titans to pull away.  During the second half the Falcons were 7-28 for 25 percent from the field, compared to the 10-24 or 41.67 percent they shot in the first half.  The Titans meanwhile shot 12-19 or 63.16 percent in the second half and 42.86 on 12-28 shooting in the first half.

The cold shooting was also evident from the three-point range as the Falcons were 1-12 for 8.3 percent.  UWO was much better at 6-14 for 42 percent.  The Falcons were sharp from the charity strip, hitting on 12-15.  UWO was 8-13 for 61.5 percent.  Jessie Van Wyhe (Albertville, MN, St. Michael-Albertville) was a perfect 4-4 from the free-throw line to lead the Falcons.

Tess Lueders (Stillwater, MN, Stillwater) led the Falccons with 15 points on 6-14 shooting.  Van Wyhe was second with 13 points.  This tied a career-high for the sophomore guard.  She also had 13 points against St. Scholastica earlier this season.  She also led the Falcons with three of the team's seven steals.

The Falcons were out-rebounded 33-31.  Holly Riesselman (Cottage Grove, MN, Park) led the way with six, followed by Lueders, Brittany Gregorich (Altoona, WI, Altoona) and Hailey Siegle (Waconia, MN, Mayer Lutheran) who each had four.  Gregorich also had three of UWRF's eight assists.  UWO meanwhile had 15 assists as a team.

Both teams committed 16 turnovers throughout the game.

With the loss the Falcons fall to 6-2 overall and 1-1 in the WIAC.  Oshkosh improves to 3-4 overall and they are also 1-1 in the WIAC.  UWRF is 23-25 all-time against the Titans.

The Falcons will return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 12 when they take one UW-Stout at the Karges Center.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.  The Falcons are 42-37 all-time against the Blue Devils.
