John Bullis (Frisco, TX, Texas, NAHL) scored the Falcons only goal as they fell to the UW-Stevens Point Pointers in Stevens Point on Saturday night. The Falcons, coming off one of their biggest wins in history on Friday night at St. Norbert, gave up three first period goals and could not recover.
Scott Lewan (Westland, MI, Alberni Valley, BCHL) was in net once again for the Falcons at Willett Arena. Brandon Jaeger got the start for the Pointers as they looked to pull within one point of the Falcons in the NCHA with a win.
The Pointers got on the board first when Luke Nesper beat Lewan to put the Pointers up 1-0 with 11:43 remaining in the period.
Just under three minutes later, at 14:14, Kyle Heck netter a power play goal to put the UW-Steven's Point up 2-0.
The Pointers would add one more in the first when Jerry Friesmuth scored on the power play to make it 3-0 at the end of the first period.
The Falcons would score the only goal of the second period and their only goal of the game at 16:48 when Bullis scored. The goal was assisted by Adam Cardwell (Long Beach, CA, Wichita Falls, NAHL) and Alec Hagaman (Peoria, IL, Topeka, NAHL) and it made the score 3-1.
The last goal of the game was scored at 5:08 in the third period when Andrew Kolb scored to seal the 4-1 win for the Pointers.
The Falcons were outshot 11-2 in the first, 7-4 in the third, and 22-12 overall.
Jason Yuel (Winnipeg, MAN, Prince George, BCHL) led the Falcons with three shots on goal. Nine other players recorded one shot.
Lewan finished with 19 total saves in the game. Jaeger had 11 saves for UW-Stevens Point.
UWRF finished the game 0-8 on the power play with marks of 0-4 in the second period and 0-4 in the third period.
The Falcons fall to 13-6-2 overall and 7-5-2 in the NCHA. The Pointers improve to 10-8-3 overall and 6-5-3 in the NCHA.
UWRF now sit at third in the NCHA with 16 points and UW-Steven's Point gains two points with the win, but remain in fourth with 15 points. St. Norbert holds on to first place with 19 points and St. Scholastica sits in second with 18 points.
The Falcons will return home on Thursday, February 2, to take on the UW-Eau Claire Blugolds at 7:05 p.m.
