Track & Field Teams Compete in First Day of NCAA Meet - Photos Added

Brandenburg, Men's 4x100 Relay Qualify for Finals

The Falcon track & field teams competed in the first day of the NCAA Meet held in Claremont, Calif., on Thursday.

The men's x100 relay team set a school record and qualified for the finals. The team of James Butler, Jordan Crockett, Mike Sandle and Michael Woodward ran a 41.24. That broke their record set earlier this year of 41.35. The finals will be held on Saturday at 2:40 p.m. The WIAC has four teams in the finals. Teams from Whitewater, Platteville and La Crosse will join the Falcons in the finals.

Jared Brandenburg had a great race in the 3,000-meter steeplechase finishing second in his heat, and fourth overall, with a time of 9:14.24. He entered the meet with the sixth best time in the nation - 9:00.78. The best time in the event in the prelims was 9:07.62. Brandenburg will run in the finals of the event on Saturday and the race starts at 2:10 p.m.

Alicia Potting had one of her best jumps of the year with an 18-5 1/4 effort. She finished in 12th place. "Alicia's best jump was her first," said Falcon Coach Aaron Decker. "She was behind the board on her take off and still had a great effort." The winning jump was 20-6 1/2 by Wartburg's Skye Morrison.

Alyssa Rasmussen competed in the prelims of the 200 and ran a 24.77. She placed 15th overall of 22 runners and did not qualify for the finals.

Crockett ran a 21.61 in the 200 prelims and he placed 17th of the 20 runners entered in the event. He did not qualify for the finals.

Katie Rydeen had a great effort in the 10,000-meter run. She finished the grueling race in 37:42.94 and placed 15th overall. The race was very fast with four runners breaking the facility record.

The Falcon 4x400 relay team of Paul Schreiner, Indy Liljevall, Scott Jensen and Crockett finished in 3:16.93 and placed 14th of the 16 teams that ran the race. The team did not qualify for the finals.

Three Falcons will compete on Friday. Benjamin Tykwinski will compete in the hammer and that event starts at 2:05 p.m. At 5:45 p.m., Clai Catto will compete in the high jump. Rasmussen will run in the 400 prelims at 5:50 p.m.
