Track & Field Teams Compete in Second Day at NCAA Meet

Rasmussen Qualifies for 400 Finals

The Falcon track & field teams compete in day two of the NCAA Meet in Claremont, Calif., on Friday.

Alyssa Rasmussen came through with a great race in the 400 and qualified for Saturday's finals in the 400. She finished second in her heat, and sixth overall, with a time of 56.45. The finals will be at 3:40 p.m., on Saturday.

Benjamin Tykwinski finished just one spot out of placing and earning All-American honors in the hammer throw. His best effort was 183-7 putting him in ninth place. His best throw was his first.

Clai Catto had a tough time in his specialty - the high jump. He missed all on three leaps at 6-4 3/4.

The Falcons will compete in the third and final day of the meet on Saturday. Kayla Hillman will compete in the pole vault and that event starts at 12:30 p.m. The Falcons have two qualifiers in the triple jump - Mike Sandle and Michael Woodward will compete at 12:50 p.m. Jared Brandenburg will run in the finals of the steeplechase at 2:10 p.m. He qualified for the finals by running a 9:14.24 on Thursday. 

The Falcon men's 4x100 relay team will run in the finals and that event starts at 2:40 p.m., on Saturday. Members of the team are The team of James ButlerJordan Crockett, Sandle and Woodward. They qualified for the finals by running a school record time of 41.24 on Thursday.

Rasmussen will compete in the 400 finals and that event starts at 3:40 p.m.

Becky Ponick will compete in the javelin at 3:45 p.m., on Saturday. Ponick holds the school record in the event with a throw of 141-1 1/4.
