Women's Hockey UWRF Sports Information

Women's Hockey Falls to Gustavus, 2-1

Two of the best women hockey teams in the nation played tonight as the No. 6 ranked UW-River Falls Falcons hosted the No. 2 ranked Gustavus Adolphus College Lions out at Hunt Arena.

scored her fourth goal of the season with one minute left in the first period to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. She was assisted by Chloe Kinsel (West St. Paul, MN, Cretin-Derham Hall HS) who now has seven assists this year.  

At 10:02 of the second period Lindsey Hjelm of GAC tied the game on an unassisted power play goal. GAC went 1-4 on power play opportunities. The second period would end in a 1-1 tie.

Both goalies played strong and each had 22 saves in the first two periods. UWRF goalie Ashley Kuechle (Saskatoon, SASK, Battleford Sharks) ended the game with 25 total saves. GAC goalie Lindsey Hibbard recorded 27 total saves in the game.

Both teams slowed down shooting for the majority of the third period. UWRF ended the game with 28 shots on goal and GAC ended with 27 in the game.

Courtney Boucher for GAC scored what ended up being the game-winning goal at 4:03 into the third period.

At 16:24 both Kinsel and Alice Cranston (River Falls, WI, St. Croix Valley Fusion) had shots on goal during a power play opportunity. UWRF went 1-5 on power play opportunities in the game.

UWRF will travel to Gustavus Adolphus College Friday, Dec. 14 with the puck set to drop at 7 p.m.
