Volleyball Drops A Pair of Matches in Four Sets At Platteville Tournament

The UW-River Falls Falcons dropped two matches in four sets this afternoon at the UW-Platteville Tournament to finish 1-3 on the weekend. Lexi Pingel was named to the All-Tournament team. 

"We played some extremely tough competition this weekend," said Falcon coach Patti Ford. "Coe, Carthage and Augustana have been ranked on the top 25 nationally. We played extremely well against Coe and strong in the other three matches."

First Match: Platteville 3, UWRF 1

The Falcons dropped the first match 25-17 before bouncing back witha  25-23 second set victory. Platteville took the third 25-15 and battled to win a tightly contested fourth set 26-24 over UWRF. 

Rebecca Gasper played a strong match recording 12 kills, an ace and three blocks. Tayler Fertig recorded nine kills and had two blocks in the match while Katie Duff had eight kills and two blocks. 

Raven Klein recorded 36 assists and added 14 digs. Only Lexi Pingel had more digs with 15 in the match. Kadie Brooks and Hali Tasler each added 10 digs to the 64 team total. 

Second Match: Augustana 3, UWRF 1

Augustana won the first two sets before the Falcons won 25-15 in the third set and dropped the final match. 

UWRF hit a .201 in the match. Lisa Keppers led the team with 14 kills while Gasper had eight and Amara Meyer had six. Pingel, Brianna Muetzel and Brooks all had double digits in digs. 

UWRF falls to 9-10 on the season. 

 "This should prepare us better for next weekends WIAC matches on the road," Ford said. 

The Falcons play at UW-Oshkosh next Friday with a start time of 7 p.m.
