Volleyball Splits First Day at Platteville Tournament

The UW-River Falls Falcons beat Coe College in four sets and fell to No. 23 in the nation Carthage College in three sets on the first day of the UW-Platteville Tournament. 

First Match: UWRF 3, Coe 1

UWRF won again this evening in four sets over Coe College which moved their win streak to four.

The Falcons dropped the first set 25-23, but took the next three sets 25-22, 25-21 and 25-21 to get their ninth win of the season and improved to 9-7 on the season. 

UWRF hit a .227 while Coe hit a .145 in the match. Rebecca Gasper led the attack with 11 kills while Katie Duff and Brianna Muetzel had nine kills apiece. Tayler Fertig added five kills in the match. Raven Klein had 38 assists this evening. 

UWRF had 80 digs tonight led by Lexi Pingel with 19, Hali Tasler 18, while Muetzel and Klein each had 14 kills in the match. 

Kadie Brooks had two service aces out of the four UWRF aces. 

Muetzel had the only solo block of the match for UWRF.

Second Match: Carthage 3, UWRF 0

The Falcons only hit a .064 against Carthage and had no player over four kills. Pingel had two service aces in the match and had 10 of the Falcons 46 digs. Michaela Piechowski recorded nine digs, Brooks eight and Tasler six. 

Carthage took the first set 25-17, the second 25-15 and finished the victory with a 25-17 third set win. 

UWRF is back in action this morning against Platteville and will play Augustana College at noon.
