Falcons Win 3-0; Now 5-3-2 Overall

The Falcon soccer team got back on the winning track with a 3-0 WIAC win at UW-Stout on Sunday.

Nina Abrahamson, Abby Soderholm and Alex Swatloski netted the goals for the Falcons, and Missy Barnett had two assists, as UWRF improved to 5-3-2 overall.

UWRF scored twice in the first half and added another goal in the second.

Abrahamson opened the scoring in the eighth minute to give UWRF the only goal it would need. It was her second goal of the year. Barnett headed the ball to Abrahamson who finished the play. Abby Soderholm scored UWRF's second goal in the 27th minute to give her team a 2-0 lead. It was her sixth goal of the season and came on a penalty kick.

The second half goal was scored by Swatloski. She was assisted by Barnett and the goal came in the 59th minute.

The Falcons outshot UWS, 13-9, including 8-5 in the first half. UWRF finished with 10 corner kicks.

Falcon goalie Erica Cimochowski stopped six shots to record the shutout. It is her third shutout of the year.

"This was a great win over a quality program," said Falcon Coach Sean McKuras after the game. "This is a good WIAC win that we are very proud of. We leaned on several players tonight and will continue to do so during a busy week coming up."

The Falcons, now 5-3-2 overall and 1-1-1 in the WIAC, will next play at Bethel at 3:30 p.m., on Monday. UWRF then hosts Gustavus Adolphus College on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The game will be played in Ramer Field which has AstroTurf. It will be the first night game ever played by the Falcons at home. On Saturday the Falcons get back to WIAC play with a match at UW-Oshkosh that starts at 2 p.m.
