The UW-River Falls Falcons won 3-2 over Concordia-Moorhead College as three different players scored goals led by
Paige Johnson who recorded two assists in the victory.Ā
A turnover in their own zone almost hurt UWRF just over two minutes in but Kristin Dreschel for the Cobbers hit a shot off the pipe. The rest of the period was controlled by the Falcons.Ā
UWRF went on the games first power play at 7:17 into the game and scored the first goal of the game right after at 7:46 when
Chloe KinselĀ scored off a pass from the left face off circle for her 12th goal of the season.
Sam Greeley and
Paige Johnson each recorded assists on the play. Greeley now has eight assists and Johnson has seven.Ā
The Falcons wasted no time adding another goal at 8:20 into the game when
Carly Moran lit the lamp when she sniped a shot from a bit inside the blue line for the goal which was her ninth of the season assisted by
Dani Sibley for her ninth this season. Ā
With 2:34 left to go in the first period the Falcons went on their second power play of the game but had it killed off. UWRF went 1-2 on power play chances in the first period while putting 13 shots on goal with 11 stopped by Madison Denny and CMC had no power play opportunitiesĀ and had all four shots on net knocked away by
Angie Hall.Ā
Similar to the first period CMC had a good scoring chance just two minutes into the second period but Hall gloved a shot to keep it a 2-0 game. After the pursuing face offĀ Dreschel beat Hall at 2:25 to pull the Cobbers within one.Ā
UWRF went on their third power play of the game and first of the second period at 4:48 but CMC was able to kill it off. At 8:45
Alice Cranston poked in the puck from just right of the goalie to make it 3-1 assisted by Johnson. The goal was the ninth of the season for Cranston and gave Johnson her eighth assist.Ā
At 14:26 CMC again pulled within one after a Bri Flynn goal in between the circles. The Falcons took a 3-2 lead into intermission after going 0-1 on the only power play of the period and put 16 shots on goal while CMC had five shots on net in the period.Ā
The Cobbers had a breakaway chance knocked away by Hall that would have tied the game with just under twelve minutes left in the third period and shortly after headed on their first power play of the game at 8:47 into the period. The Falcons were able to kill off the periods only penalty.Ā
UWRF hung ot to the win recording nine shots on goal in the third period and finished with 37 while going 1-3 on power plays and CMC went 0-1 on power plays while recording 14 shots on goal in the game.Ā
Denny had 34 saves in the loss while Hall recorded 12 saves and improves to 9-3 on the season.Ā
UWRF is now 11-3 on the season and will take on the Cobbers again tomorrow afternoon at Hunt Arena with the drop of the puck set for 2:05 p.m
