Women’s Soccer Wins Chalice Trophy

DULUTH, Minn. (uwrfsports.com) - The UW-River Falls soccer team beat the St. Scholastica Saints 4-0 this Wednesday in Duluth, Minnesota at Saints Field.   With the win the Falcons maintained ownership of the Chalice Trophy.  The Chalice is a traveling trophy that is awarded to the winner of the St. Scholastica/UWRF yearly match.  The two teams started playing for the Chalice Trophy in 2009 and since its induction the Falcons have taken it home five times with wins in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2015, and 2016.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Junior, Carrie Anderson scored her third goal of the season to put UWRF on the board at 19:37 in the first half. Kayla Windingstad and Abby Soderhold assisted the goal for the Falcons.
  • In less than 10 minutes, the Falcons were able to up the score to 2-0. The goal came from junior, Abby Soderholm, which was also her third goal of the season. Lindsey Jack assisted the goal.
  • At 59:34 the freshman, Rachel Windingstad scored her first goal of the season. Mariah Trojeer assisted the goal.
  • Rachel Windingstad scored another goal within 5 minutes of the first. The goal was assisted by Abby Soderholm and increased the score to 4-0.
  • Erica Cimochowski started in goal for the Falcons. She played for 71:34 minutes until Amanda Ladue came in and finished the game for UWRF, playing 18:26 minutes. The goalie's had a total of 3 saves.
  • The Falcons had a total of 22 shots, with 12 on goal. The shots came from 6 UWRF players. Kenzie Weisman (1) Abby Soderholm (6) Rachel Windingstand (5) Carrie Anderson (3) Kayla Windingstad (6) and Emily Swanson. (1)
