Women's Hockey Opens Up With A Tie Against No. 3 Norwich University

Adrian, MI (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls women's hockey team started the season at the Bulldog Bowl in Adrian, Michigan against Norwich University.  In a back-and-forth game, the Falcons scored the tying goal with just under 3 minutes to go to salvage a 3-3 tie.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST NORWICH
  • The Cadets took an early lead at 2:45 into the game with a power play goal by Bryn Labbe. The power play was put into effect at 1:15 in the game by Hailey Herdine for checking.
  • The lady Falcons were whistled for 3 penalties in the games first 10 minutes.
  • Callie Hoff scored the first goal of the season for UWRF at 9:25 of the first period, with the assist going to Erica SchramelCallie Hoff's goal tied the game at 1.
  • The Falcons took their first lead of the game almost halfway through the second period when Carly Moran scored her first goal of the season on the power play.  The assists on the goal went to Izzy Brosseau and Hailey Herdine.
  • The lead didn't last long as Norwich tied the game just over a minute later as Amanda Conway scored the first of her two goals in the game.
  • With under 3 minutes to go in the game, the women's hockey team found themselves down 3-2.  Then Kora Torkelson took a pass from Jessica Bird, and scored her first goal of the season, and tied the game at 3.
  • The Falcons were whistled for 8 penalties in the contest, with Norwich converting 2 of them into power play goals.
  • Angie Hall made 32 saves in goal for UW-River Falls.  13 of them in the second period.
  • Neither team scored in the five-minute overtime session to force a shootout in which the Falcons made 3 of their 5 shots to clinch the opportunity to play in the Bulldog Bowl Championship game.

  • Amanda Conway paced the Cadets with 2 goals and an assist on the offensive end.
