Women's Basketball Opens Up Weekend With Win in California

WHITTIER, Calif. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls women's basketball team got their eight win of the season and their fifth in a row as they defeated Dickinson College 58-45 Friday afternoon. 
 

THE RUNDOWN

WHAT HAPPENED
  • Taylor Karge started the half with a three-pointer giving the Falcons their first lead of the night. 
  • The Falcons ended the first quarter with an eight point run to put them up by ten at the quarter break.
  • In the second quarter, the Falcons got their biggest lead of the night when Crystal Pearson put five points on the board in a row to put the Falcons up by 19. 
  • At the end of the half the Falcons were ahead 35-20.  Crystal Pearson was the leading scorer in the half with nine points on 3-4 shooting. 
  • Dickinson took charge of things in the third quarter outscoring the Falcons 18-4 and finishing the third quarter within one point of the Falcons. 
  • The Red Devils took their only lead of the game in the fourth quarter after Halle Maeda made a three pointer in first minute and a half of the quarter. 
  • The Falcon defense would only allow the Red Devils four more points in the quarter. 
  • Offensively the Falcons went on a 19-2 run giving themselves a thirteen point lead at the end. 
 
IN-DEPTH LOOK
  • Jaycie Gerding had a team high 12 points on 4-7 shooting.  She was 4-5 beyond the arc. 
  • Taylor Karge and Crystal Pearson each had ten points in the game.  Karge completed a double double by adding ten rebounds to her ten points which she got on 4-10 shooting. 
  • Pearson came off the bench for her ten points.  She was 3-7 from the floor and 3-6 from the charity stripe.  She also added eight rebounds.
  • As a team, the Falcons were 20-57 (35.1 percent) from the floor and shot 8-18 (44.4 percent) from beyond the arc.  They converted 24 points off of turnovers. 

THE OPPOSITION
  • Halle Maeda was the leading scorer of the game with 14 points.  She was 3-11 from the floor and 7-9 from the charity stripe.  She also added four rebounds, two assists, and three steals. 
  • Hannah Heiring was 5-12 from the floor for 13 points.  She was 3-5 from beyond the arc.
  • The Red Devils shot 11-44 (26.8 percent) from the floor. They were 18-27 (66.7 percent) from the free throw line
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The Falcons will face Emmanuel College Saturday at Whittier College.  Tip off will take place at 12 a.m. pst.
