Women's Volleyball Drops Two

ST. PAUL, Minn. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls women's volleyball suffered two nonconference losses to St. Mary's University and Northwestern University-St. Paul Saturday in St. Paul. 
 
In the first match the Falcons fell to the Eagles 1-3.    They started out strong winning the first set 25-22 and out hitting the Eagles .270-.222.  Set two was under the control of the Eagles as they won 25-16.  They led the set all but one point and had a seven point run.  Sets three and four were closer sets for the Falcons as they only lost 21-25 and 22-25.
 
Karli Nielsen led the offense with 15 kills.  Savannah Brauer added 13 kills.  Hannah Robb dug up 23 digs and Hannah Striggow had 13.  The Falcons had 13 total blocks.  Corynne Dahl accounted for seven and Brauer and Nielsen each had 6.
 
The Eagles were led by Mariah Halvorsen who had a game high 23 kills and 19 digs.  Overall the Eagles out hit the Falcons .199 to .171. 
 
In match two the Falcons took the Cardinals to a long first set falling 24-26.  They rallied back in the second set winning 25-20 but ran out of gas in sets three and falling behind 15-25 and 11-25. 
 
Brauer led the way for the Falcons with 12 kills and a team best .423 attack percentage. Nielsen chipped in ten kills.  Robb led the team and the match with 21 digs and four assists.  As a team the Falcons had 39 kills and hit .181. 
 
Brandi Blatter was the leading scorer for the Cardinals with a match high 19 kills.  

The Falcons drop to 12-16 on the season.  They travel across the state to compete at the Concordia Wisconsin Invitational Friday and Saturday.  Their opening match in Friday afternoon against Illinois Wesleyan.
