RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) - UW-River Falls lost their final game of the season 2-0 to UW-Whitewater and were eliminated from WIAC playoff contention on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons needed either a win or a UW-Platteville loss to secure a place in the six-team playoff, but the Pioneers defeated UW-Oshkosh 2-0 on Saturday.
The Warhawks forced three saves from UWRF goalie
Amanda LaDue before they scored in the 22nd minute on a pass from Anna Boyd to Carli Nehls. Nehls' fourth goal of the season put UW-Whitewater up 1-0, and they outshot the Falcons 9-1 in the first half.
Alayna Westerman was the only Falcon to register a shot on goal, and
Amanda LaDue made four saves in the opening 45 minutes.
UW-Whitewater made it 2-0 in the 76th minute on Savannah Curtis' fourth goal of the season.
Mariah Troje and
Erika Lagoon also forced saves from Nina Yonan in the second half, but they couldn't find a way past the Warhawks and lost their final game 2-0. LaDue made eight saves, and the Falcons were outshot 18-6.
Maggie Koehler and
Camryn Altnau finished as the leading scorers for UWRF this season with 23 points each. Altnau had 10 goals and 3 assists, and Koehler had 8 goals and 7 assists.
Kari Rollo had four goals and Troje and
Jadelyn Hunn finished with three apiece.
LaDue gave up 19 goals and made 36 saves this season, while
Haley Crosby gave up 18 goals and made 69 saves. Crosby also finished second in the WIAC in save percentage and first in saves per game. The Falcons finished their season 9-9-1 and 2-5 in the WIAC.
