MILWAUKEE, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) The UW-River Falls women's volleyball team finished out its 2018 season with a pair of 3-0 nonconference wins on the road. The Falcons traveled to Wisconsin Lutheran to compete in their fall triangular Saturday.
In match one, the Falcons won 3-0 (25-15, 25-10, and 25-23) against MSOE. In the first set, the Falcons got on the board first and carried the lead from start to finish to easily win. MSOE took command of things in the second set scoring first but the Falcons answered with a five point run to give them the lead. The defense would only allow MSOE to 10 points total in the set. The Falcons finished the set with a six point run and a 25-10 win.
In the third set, the Falcons had to battle a little bit more as there were ten times that the game was tied. MSOE looked like they might pull off a set win when they tied it up 23-23 but the Falcons answered with a kill by
Savannah Brauer and then an attach error by MSOE.
The Falcons outhit MSOE .218 to .119.
Dakotah Poitra led the offense with 10 kills. She added 10 digs to her day to give her the double double.
Hannah Robb had 12 digs and eight service aces.
In match two the Falcons got their second shutout win of the weekend defeating Maranatha Baptist University 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-15). In set one Maranatha scored first but
Corynne Dahl answered with back to back kills.
Savannah Brauer had three kills in a seven point run for the Falcons giving them a 10-4 lead. Later in the set the Sabercats got within one point 18-19 but Nielsen came up big with four kills to secure the win.
The Falcons won set two 25-20. It looked like the Sabercats might take the match after they started with a seven point run to start the game. The Falcons however ended it with a four point run to take the set. In set three the Falcons had no problems winning. They finished the game with an 11-1 point run to win 25-15.
The Falcons outperformed Maranatha offensively outhitting them .236 to .052. The Falcons had 47 total kills and were led by
Karli Nielsen who had 15. Other Falcons with double digit kills were
Savannah Brauer with 12 and
Dakotah Poitra with ten. Defensively Nielsen had six blocks and
Hannah Robb had 14 digs.
Mallory Griffin and
Dakotah Poitra each added 12 digs.
