RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) - The Falcons finished out the St. Olaf/Carleton Invitational on Saturday with games against Crown College and Carleton, going 1-1 to advance to 2-2 on the season.
UWRFÂ was in complete control in their morning game against Crown, winning in three sets 26-24, 25-19, 25-8. A kill by
Hannah Striggow and a service ace from
Mallory Griffin helped seal the tight opening set after it was tied at 24-24, with UW-River Falls trailing 14-11 midway through the set. The Falcons settled in for the final two sets in a match that featured 16 Falcons in action.
Dakotah Poitra led the Falcons with 11 kills and five service aces against Crown, while
Hailey Huseth led the team with 18 assists. Crown's Madeline Svoboda had a game-high 23 digs, but the Storm allowed 15 aces for UWRF.
The Falcons had a tougher time in game two, winning the first and third sets before falling to Carleton 25-17, 18-25, 25-23, 17-25, 12-15. Poitra had 24 kills against the Knights, with Striggow and Griffin also reaching double digits at 17 and 10 kills. Huseth and Griffin combined for 53 assists, while libero
Hannah Robb had a game-high 20 digs. The Falcons fell behind 8-1 in the decisive fifth set and couldn't claw their way back for a win. UWRF was 6-1 in their last seven five-set matches before losing to the Knights.
Through four games, Poitra leads the team with 70 kills and 10 service aces. Huseth is first with 84 assists and Robb is the leader in digs with 79. Striggow sits at second place in both kills and digs with 50 kills and 56 digs.Â
UWRFÂ will travel to Milwaukee next weekend for the Milwaukee School of Engineering tournament. The Falcons will face MSOE at 3 p.m. and Maranantha Baptist at 5 p.m. on Friday.Â
