RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) - UW-River Falls allowed a two-goal lead to slip away in the second half before
Maggie Koehler scored her second goal of the day to secure a 3-2 victory in the 90th minute.
The Falcons got on the board in the third minute when Koehler scored her first goal of the day to give UWRF a 1-0 edge on Northland. The LumberJills pushed the ball into the Falcons half of the field in the opening minutes but only managed one shot in the first half. UWRF had 18 shots in the first half, forcing 10 saves from Northland goalie Megan Jordan. Jordan made a number of incredible saves to keep a game dominated by the Falcons at only a 1-0 deficit at halftime.
Camryn Altnau continued her scoring streak with a goal only two minutes after halftime, which was her seventh of the season and fifth straight game with a goal. Koehler had taken a shot that hit the crossbar, which fell right at Altnau's feet to put into the back of the net to make it 2-0.
It seemed like the game was in hand for the Falcons as the second half ticked on, but Northland fought their way back into the game with two goals in the 70th and 72nd minutes. Kaiya Voldberg and Makayna Lemanski both netted their first goals of the season to put the pressure on UWRF to find a late goal.
It wouldn't come until the 90th minute when
Lindsey Jack sent a deep ball to
Rachel Windingstad on the left wing. Windingstad sent the ball into Koehler for a header she slotted past Jordan to ensure a 3-2 win for UWRF. Windingstad assisted on both of Koehler's goals, and Koehler now has four goals on the season. She also led the Falcons with four shots on goal in Tuesday's game, while Windingstad and
Mariah Troje each had three.
Amanda LaDue didn't have any saves in goal for UWRF, while Jordan finished with 16 saves for the LumberJills after facing 19 shots on goal and 32 total shots. The Falcons also had a 5-3 advantage on corner kicks and a 32-7 advantage on shots.
The Falcons improve to 4-1-1 with the win and will travel to Ripon College on Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff. UWRF is 5-0-0 all-time against Ripon.
