Women's Basketball Falls to No. 15 Oshkosh

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) - The Falcons weren't able to contend with UW-Oshkosh's shooting and defensive pressure in a 42-70 loss at Page Arena on Saturday afternoon. The no. 15 ranked Titans shot 62 percent from the field in the first half and 50 percent overall, including knocking down four three-pointers in the first half. UW-River Falls only managed to 36 percent overall in the first half and 1-10 on three-pointers, contributing to a difficult afternoon for the Falcons. Lori Wardynski finished with a team-high 12 points off the bench and four rebounds, but she was the only Falcons' player in double figures.

The Titans jumped out to a 13-4 lead in the opening minutes after a three-pointer from Nikki Arneson, but a jumper from Wardynski made it a six-point game with only two minutes remaining in the first quarter. However, a 15-1 run soon followed that was capped off by a three-pointer from Melanie Schneider to give the Titans a 20-point lead midway through the second quarter. Jenna Zeman scored the last seven points of the half for the Falcons, but a three-pointer from Jessie Rabas in the closing seconds made it a 17-point halftime deficit for the Falcons.

UWRF had a difficult time containing the strong post play of the Titans. Karsyn Rueth finished with 15 points on 6-9 shooting for the Titans, while Melanie Schneider grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds. The Falcons weren't able to make the game any closer than 15 points in the second half, and UW-Oshkosh stretched the lead to 29 points midway through the fourth quarter. The Titans attempted 18 free throws in the second half and made 12 of them, while the Falcons were only 0-1 from the charity stripe in the second half. The Titans also held an 8-3 advantage on steals and 42-24 advantage on rebounds.

The Falcons are now 7-8 on the season and 1-3 in WIAC play. They will hit the road again on Wednesday when they travel to Menomonie to take on UW-Stout at 7 p.m.
