Dakotah Poitra (Belle Plaine, Minn.), a member of Falcon women's volleyball team and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Vice-President, has been selected to attend the 2020 NCAA Division III Student Immersion Program.

The NCAA Division III Student Immersion Program was created in 2015 with the goal to "build a pipeline of talented ethnic minority candidates, with an interest in Division III coaching and/or administration, in an effort to ultimately diversify the division." Poitra was selected to attend the program out of more than 80 applicants.

"As a selected candidate for the NCAA immersion program, I am honored to represent the ethnic minority of student-athletes and have the opportunity to connect with peers and influential leaders in the NCAA," said Poitra. "I'm looking forward to gaining techniques to improve my leadership skills and being a part of discussions that encourage ethic minority student-athletes to take part in NCAA athletics, as well as become a leaders within their athletic programs."

Poitra will be one of 40 participants traveling to the NCAA Convention held Jan. 22-25, 2020 in Anaheim, Calif. The participants in the Student Immersion Program will attend workshops, forums and panels, business sessions and other regular programming as part of the convention.

Poitra is the third consecutive student-athlete from UW-River Falls to be selected for the program.
