Falcons Fall to Lion on the Road

HANCOCK, Mich. (uwrfsports.com) – The women's basketball team was on the road to take on Finlandia University for the second time this season.  The Falcons fell to the Lions 65-75.

THE RUNDOWN

WHAT HAPPENED
  • The Falcons shot 46.7 percent from the field in the first half, hitting 14-30, including 6-13 from behind the arc.  
  • Haley DeSouza led the Falcons, scoring 12 points in the first half, including 4-6 from behind the arc. She also recorded 16 minutes in the half.
  • The Falcons scored 14 points off the bench overall, and eight in the first half. 
  • Overall the Falcons scored seven 2nd chance points in the half, 12 total in the game, all on 11 offensive rebounds.
  • The Falcons went into halftime leading 36-32. 
  • UWRF shot 30 percent in the second half overall, making 9-30 field goals and making 5-14 three-pointers (35.7 percent).
  • Sydeny Hein led the Falcons in the second half with 9 points on three three-pointers.
  • The Falcons finished with 22 points in the paint. They also scored 14 points off turnovers, five coming in the second half.
  • River Falls finished the game with 35 rebounds and eight steals.    
 
IN-DEPTH LOOK
  • DeSouza was the leading scorer for Falcons with 15 points on 5-14 shooting, all three-pointers.  She also recorded three rebounds and five turnovers.
  • Crystal Pearson contributed 14 points on the night.  Sydney Hein and Lori Wardynski each added 12 points to the Falcons total.
  • UWRF made 23-60 shots (38.3 percent) from the floor in the loss. They went 11-27 from behind the arc (40.7 percent), and hit 8-16 free throws (50 percent).

THE OPPOSITION
  • Finlandia was led by Katie Lundeen with 29 points. She shot 12-19 from the floor and went 5-7 from the free throw line.
  • From the field, Finlandia made 28-60 (46.7 percent) and 1-10 (10 percent) from downtown.  They also shot 72 percent from the free throw line, 18-25.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
UW-River Falls have the week off and will continue play next Saturday, Dec. 14 as they travel to Northfield to take on Carleton College.
