Women's Volleyball Splits on Second Day of Macalester Invite

ST. PAUL, Minn. (uwrfsports.com) – The UW-River Falls women's volleyball team split on their second day of play at the Macalester Invite.  In their first match, the Falcons beat Central College, 3-1 (14-25, 25-23, 25-14, 25-18).  The second match of the day resulted in a loss against St. Olaf College, 1-3 (11-25, 25-21, 25-27, 20-25).

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST CENTRAL COLLEGE
  • The Falcons beat Central in four games, (14-25, 25-23, 25-14, 25-18).
  • Offensively the Falcons hit .200 with 46 kills in 140 attempts. 
  • Karli Nielsen led the Falcons with 9 kills and hit .497 in 17 attempts.  . 
  • Sarah Langlois hit .217 with 8 kills in 23 attempts. Mallory Griffin also added 9 kills in 31 attempts, hitting ..097.
  • Hailey Huseth had 36 assists. 
  • Defensively, Hannah Robb led the team with 28 digs.
  • As a team the Falcons finished the match with 11 blocks and 78 digs. 

THE OPPOSITION
  • As a team, Central hit just .197.
  • They were led by Tori Van Velzen with 9 kills.  
  • Defensively, Central was led by Landry Luhring with 14 digs.

  • The Falcons lost in their second match of the day, 1-3 (11-25, 25-21, 25-27, 20-25).
  • Overall the Falcons hit .088 with 39 kills in 148 attempts. 
  • Katie Koerper led the Falcons offensively with 12 kills; overall hitting .184.
  • Katie Haase hit .154 (5 kills, 13 TA) and Hannah Striggow had 4 kills in 18 total attacks (.167).
  • Haley Cuba recorded 23 of the teams 35 assists. 
  • As a team, the Falcons recorded 55 digs.

THE OPPOSITION 
  • St Olaf recorded 51 total kills, led by Katelyn Lannom with 14. 
  • Emily Jarnigan led the team defensively with 28 digs. 

LOOKING AHEAD
  • Up next for the Falcons is the UWRF Invitational on Friday, Sept. 13.  They will take on Northland College at 5:30pm and St Catherine University at 7:30pm.
