EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-River Falls women's basketball team wrapped up play at the UW-Eau Claire Tip-Off Classic Saturday afternoon, earning its first win of the year over UW-Superior 87-70.
The Falcons, now 1-2 overall, shot 48 percent from the field and sank 11 triples, going 44 percent from long-range.
Macy Nilsen had a stellar performance to lead the Falcons with 28 points, shooting 10-for-17 from the field, 3-for-6 from three-point range, and 5-for-5 at the free throw line. She also tied for the team-lead with four rebounds.
Colie Justice also scored in double figures, notching 19 points off 6-11 shooting from the field with four three-pointers.
UWRF jumped out to a 22-11 lead in the first quarter and didn't look back, maintaining a look throughout the afternoon.
A pair of Nilsen free throws with just four minutes left in the second quarter gave the Falcons their largest lead of the first half at 35-17. A layup by
Jenna Zeman put UWRF up 42-29 in the final seconds of the quarter, where the score stood at halftime.
The Falcons recorded game-high 56.25 field goal percentage in the third quarter, which included six threes, setting a 17-point UWRF lead heading into the final frame.
A Nilsen layup minutes into the fourth quarter gave the Falcons their largest advantage of the game at 78-56, giving UWRF plenty of room to coast to victory.
UW-River Falls hosts Augsburg University on Wednesday, Nov. 17 for the 2021-22 home opener at Page Arena.
