Sowa Steps Down as Head Track and Field Coach

Head men's and women's track and field coach Colleen Sowa has resigned from her role at UW-River Falls to pursue a Division I coaching opportunity.

Sowa, who finished her second season at UWRF, led the women's track and field team to their most successful season since 2013 with a fifth place finish at the 2021 WIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Despite the cancellation of the 2020 outdoor season and 2021 indoor championships, Sowa coached five WIAC all-conference performers, including 11 top-3 finishes, four WIAC champions and the 2021 WIAC Indoor Track and Field Performer of the Year. Under her tutelage, sophomore Lexi LeFever earned USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week honors twice during the 2021 indoor season and all-American honors during the 2021 NCAA DIII Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

"I would like to thank Coach Sowa for her commitment to Falcon athletics and the track and field program," said Athletic Director Crystal Lanning. "In two short years, she has elevated the profile of the Falcon track and field programs and she will be greatly missed by the UWRF community. I truly wish her all the best as she pursues a new professional opportunity."

A search for a replacement will begin immediately.
