Pointers end Falcons' season in WIAC Tournament First Round

RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls volleyball team, seeded sixth for the 2022 WIAC Tournament, fell in four sets (17-25, 18-25, 25-17, 5-25) at No. 3 seed and No. 15-ranked UW-Stevens Point Tuesday evening.

The Falcons' season ends with a 22-12 overall record, including a 6-2 finish in their final eight matches of the year.

Stevens Point caused 30 Falcon errors and limited UWRF to a .038 hitting percentage while the home team totaled 10 blocks and led 41-35 in kills.

The Falcons were shorthanded after leader Katie Koerper appeared in just two sets as she was being forced to leave the game due to injury, and the home team went up 2-0.

UWRF battled back in the third set, compiling a match-high .257 hitting percentage with 14 kills. UWRF was down 6-1 to open the set but answered with a 9-3 run to claim a 10-9 lead. UWSP stole back a lead at 15-14 and then the Falcons closed out the set on an 11-2 run, capped off by a Kameri Meredith kill, trimming the Pointer lead to 2-1.

UWSP responded with a dominating final set, sealing the win to move on to the WIAC Tournament Semifinals.

Sami Hilley led UWRF with 12 kills while Grace Boles led with 27 assists. Meredith had a team-high 19 digs.
