MADISON, Wis. - The UW-River Falls women's tennis team wrapped up its fall competition on Sunday finishing sixth at the 2023 WIAC Women's Tennis Championship at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
The Falcons compiled five points in the overall championship standings, collecting one in the dual-meet standings and four this weekend during Championship competition. UWRF finished ahead of UW-Stout's four points while UW-Whitewater took home the title with 21 points.
After Saturday's first day of competition, UWRF sent a pair of doubles teams to the consolation finals;
Grace Aerts &
Sydney Wiener at No. 1 along with
Chloe Struss &
Tegan McFarlane at No. 3. Aerts & Wiener both pairs settled for sixth place after falling in the fifth place final.
Saturday's singles draw sent all six Falcons to the loser's bracket, but the Falcons bounced back with five wins on Sunday, including a pair from
Sarah Baker to earn fifth place at No. 3 singles after defeating Stein from UW-Stout 6-2, 6-1 and Scharf from UW-Stevens Point 6-1, 6-4.
Alicia Langbehn represented UWRF on the All-Sportsmanship Team.
