SAINT PETER, Minn. - The No. 1-ranked UW-River Falls women's hockey team earned a 3-2 win over No. 2-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College Wednesday evening.
The Falcons remain unbeaten at 12-0 overall, coming up with their second win over the rivals from Gustavus in as many weeks, following up a 2-0 shutout over the Gusties from last Tuesday at Hunt Arena.
After the home team took a 1-0 lead in the first,
Megan Goodreau got the Falcons on the board just eight seconds into the middle frame to tie the game at 1-1. A pair of special teams goals then knotted the score at two apiece heading into the final 20 minutes.
Hailey Holland's second goal of the game gave Gustavus a 2-1 lead, shorthanded. During that same UWRF power play 40 seconds later,
Maddie McCollins scored her team-leading 12th of the season to tie game at 2-2.Â
The Falcons were limited to just two shots on goal in the final period while the Gusties peppered 12 shots on goal, but
Jordan O'Connor and the Falcon defense held strong while
Madison Lavergne and
Ellie Brice teamed up for the game-winning goal near the midway point of the period.
O'Connor finished with 22 saves to earn her 10th win of the season. Linemates
Megan Goodreau and
Maddie McCollins each finished with a goal and an assist.
Up next, UWRF opens the new year hosting Concordia College Jan. 5-6 at Hunt Arena.
