PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The UW-River Falls women's basketball team dropped a heartbreaker at UW-Platteville Saturday afternoon, falling 57-55 from Williams Fieldhouse.
Macy Nilsen led the way with 22 points and nine rebounds, shooting 8-of-20 from the field and 5-of-6 at the charity stripe.
The Falcons were held to 4-of-18 shooting from the field in the first quarter and trailed 17-11 heading into period two.
UWRF battled back in the second quarter, tying the game at 26-26 from a
Julia Seidel layup with under a minute left in the half. Soon after a
Macy Nilsen jumper gave the Falcons their first lead of the game, and UWRF led 28-26 at halftime.
A few minutes into the second half, the Pioneers took back the lead, followed by four lead changes the rest of the period. Platteville led 43-40 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Falcons and Pioneers were neck-and-neck for the final 10 minutes, and Platteville briefly gained a five-point lead, but it was erased soon after as an
Olivia Miron layup gave UWRF a 53-51 lead with 3:25 left in regulation.
UWP made a clutch layup down the stretch and forced the Falcons to foul with under 10 seconds left. Down 57-55 with three seconds left following a timeout, UWRF got a look to tie the game but came up just short.
The Falcons, now 14-10 overall and 4-9 in the WIAC, wrap up the regular season at home next Wednesday, Feb. 15 during Senior Night at Page Arena versus UW-La Crosse.
