EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The top-ranked UW-River Falls women's fell by a score of 7-4 at No. 9-ranked UW-Eau Claire Friday evening in the weekend series opener.
UWRF, now 21-3 overall and 10-1 in the WIAC, saw its 13-game winning streak come to an end with its first conference loss, allowing a season-high goals against.
After a scoreless first period, the Falcons and Blugolds combined for eight goals in the middle frame, including four-straight UWEC goals for the home team to gain a 5-2 lead. The Falcons added a couple more goals but allowed a pair in the third for the loss.

The two teams play again tomorrow afternoon at Hunt Arena in the regular season finale. UWRF remains atop the WIAC standings with 30 points, trailed by the Blugolds' 29. A Falcon win in regulation, overtime or shootout win will clinch the No. 1 seed and WIAC regular season title.
