SAINT PETER, Minn. – The UW-River Falls women's hockey team saw its 2022-23 season come to an end Saturday afternoon, falling 2-1 at Gustavus Adolphus College in the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals.
The Falcons, making their 14th NCAA Tournament appearance, finish the season with a 24-4-1 overall record.
All three goals came in the first period, with the Gusties leading 2-1 after the first period, and holding on for the win. Gustie netminder Katie McCoy was stellar, making 31 saves and shutting down 3-of-4 Falcon power play opportunities.
Gustavus took a 2-0 lead just under 13 minutes into regulation before the Falcons scored their one goal of the game.

Emma Schmitz shot for the power play goal.
The Falcons outshot the Gusties 13-9 in the middle frame before the home team led 13-8 in the final 20 minutes. Head coach
Joe Cranston and the Falcons pulled Miller for the extra attacker late in regulation, but UWRF couldn't get another goal past McCoy and the Gustie defense.
Maddie McCollins and
Aubrey Nelvin led the Falcons with five shots on target each.
