MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The UW-River Falls men's and women's track & field teams opened its weekend of competition on Friday competing at the University of Minnesota's Jack Johnson Classic.
A group of Falcons opened the Jack Johnson Classic taking part in the men's heptathlon and women's pentathlon.Â
Through four of seven heptathlon events, UWRF freshman
Jacob Balcome leads the group with 2,839 points. He placed first in the high jump at 1.95 meters (6 feet, 4.75 inches) and was second in the long jump at 6.83 meters. Tomorrow, Balcome and teammate
Charlie Theis will finish the heptathlon with the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault, and 1,000-meter run.
In the women's pentathlon, freshman
Haylie Rasmussen finished in ninth place with 2,927 points. Annika Gunder also took fifth of 10 athletes in the pole vault with a mark of 11-0.75.
Additionally, a pair of Falcon women's distance runners competed in the St. Olaf Invitational 5,000-meter run.
Laina Viere had a time of 18:04.2 (6th all-time at UWRF)Â to place fifth of 29 runners, trailed by Petyon Opsahl's time of 19:46.89.
Jack Johnson Classic competition resumes tomorrow morning.
