RIVER FALLS, Wis. — The UW-River Falls Men's Soccer team lost its home match on the turf at Ramer Field 4-1 on Wednesday, Oct. 30
The loss dropped UWRF's record on the season to 7-9 overall. The Falcons managed five shots on goal off 10 total shots, but ultimately a big first half by the Pipers made all the difference.
In the first half, the Pipers wasted no time taking an early lead. Ricky Kwabena Yawson broke loose past the UWRF back line and scored, with assists to Belal Elghorab and Jessie Juarez. Hamline struck again in the 18th minute, as another goal from Kwabena Yawson doubled the Pipers' lead to 2-0.
In the 27th minute, UWRF freshman forward Landon Christiansen scored his 12th goal of the year to cut the deficit to 2-1. Ashton Musgrave and Sorel Richardson assisted on the goal.
Within under 10 minutes until halftime, Hamline extended its lead back to two goals, as Augustune Feika scored off an assist from Jonathan Bayer. The Pipers held a 12-7 advantage in shots in the first half, while the Falcons held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Alvaro Boned recorded three of his seven saves in the first 45 minutes.
The second half saw UWRF manage three shots on goal, but ultimately the team was unable to make up any ground as Hamline held on to win. The Pipers added a goal in the 82nd minute, cementing the match at 4-1.
Ben Harris led UWRF with two shots, while eight Falcons recorded one shot each.
Up next, UWRF is set to close out its regular season as #7 UW-Eau Claire comes to town for a matchup at Smith Stadium at Ramer Field on Nov. 2. The match is set to kick off at 7 p.m.
