DULUTH, Minn. — The UW-River Falls track program got its 2024-25 indoor track schedule underway this weekend at the Opener at St. Scholastica on Saturday, December 14.
As a team, UWRF tallied six-first place finishes and 20 top-3 placements across the men's and women's events.
Field Events
The Falcons swept high jump, winning in both the men's and women's competitions. Sophomore Zane Habisch and junior Yaih Marial tied for first place oin the men's high jump, clearing 1.60 meters (6-04.75).Sophomore Zane Habisch won for the men with a personal-best mark of 1.95 meters (6-04.75), which is tied for eighth on the all-time UWRF marks.
In women's pole vault, Annika Gunderson won at a height of 3.71 meters (12-02), followed by Kalli Jo Klocke (3.10m/10-02) and Kalea Dale (3.10m/10-02) in second and Abigail Biggs (3.10m/10-02) in fourth. On the men's side, Jacob Balcome placed third at 4.30 meters (14-01.25).
In women's shot put, sophomore Lauren Schutz placed second with a distance of 12.25 meters (40-02.25).
Track Events
The Falcons swept the men's and women's 3,000 meters, taking the top three spots on the women's side and the top 14 placements on the men's. Laina Viere won the women's 3,000 meters, clocking in at 10:48.02. Adison Wilde (10:49.25) and Peyton Opsahl (10:53.34) claimed the next two spots. Logan Munson led the way on the men's side with a time of 9:07.32, followed by Wyatt Johnson (9:08.7) and Jack Richter (9:22.34).
Senior Cailyn Kuechle won the women's 800 meters with a time of 2:25.36.
In the men's 60-meter hurdles, freshman Cooper Hennemann placed second with a time of 8.65, followed by Jacob Balcome at 8.75, a new career best. Hennemann and Balcome's times rank sixth and seventh in the UWRF top-10 list in the event. In the women's 60-meter hurdles, Brielle Kuechle was the second-place finisher with a time of 9.25.
Javin Mungai finished as the runner-up in the men's 400 meters, clocking in at 52.53.

Up next, the Falcons will resume the season at UW-Eau Claire, taking part in a dual meet against the Blugolds in Eau Claire, Wis. on Jan. 18.
