Falcons Rally to Defeat Adrian, Advance to National Championship

RIVER FALLS, Wis. - The UW-River Falls women's hockey team defeated Adrian College 3-2 Friday evening at Hunt Arena in the NCAA Division III Women's Hockey Semifinals at Hunt Arena.

The Falcons, now 30-0 overall, set an NCAA Division III women's hockey record for most wins in a single season. UWRF trailed 2-1 after 40 minutes before scoring twice in the third period to prevail past the Bulldogs to advance to the National Championship game. The Falcons will play Elmira College on Sunday at 3 p.m. for the national title.

Adrian opened the game's scoring just over 15 minutes into the first period, but just eight seconds later a Madison Lavergne goal tied the game at 1-1, where it stood after one period. The Bulldogs added another late period goal in the middle frame to claim the one-goal lead heading into the final 20 minutes.

Through two periods, the Falcons outshot the Bulldogs 32-15, but Adrian played stout defense and held UWRF scoreless on a pair of power plays.

Soon into the third period, UWRF's leading scorer and the 2023-24 Laura Hurd National Player of the Year Maddie McCollins stepped up, tying the game with a wrist shot just outside the slot. Then, late in regulation, Bailey Olson stuffed in a shot just outside the crease for the game-winner.

Jordan O'Connor made 22 saves to collect her 22nd win of the season.
