ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The UW-River Falls track program concluded Day 1 of the 2025 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships in Rochester, New York.
Junior Annika Gunderson placed 13th overall in the women's pole vault, clearing 3.77 meters (12-4.5). Gunderson cleared 3.62 meters and 3.77 meters in her first attempts. The trip to the 2025 Indoor National Championships marked Gunderson's third consecutive qualification for the indoor championships. Gunderson concludes her 2024-25 indoor season with a WIAC bronze medal and a season-best mark of 3.83 meters (12-6.75).
In the men's heptathlon, sophomore Jacob Balcome finished Day 1 with 2,972 points, standing first among all participants through four events.
Balcome started the day with a 12th-place finish in the 60 meters, clocking in at 7.27. The sophomore followed up with a fifth-place mark in the long jump, leaping 6.76 meters (22-2.25).
In the shot put, he placed eighth with a throw of 11.96 meters (39-3). Balcome rounded out the day in the heptathlon high jump, clearing 2.02 meters (6-7.5) to place first — the mark is a new career best and ranks sixth all-time in the UWRF indoor record book.
Next up, Balcome will conclude the final three events of the men's heptathlon tomorrow. His first event will be the heptathlon 60 meters, which is set to begin at 9 a.m. ET.
