OSHKOSH, Wis. — The UW-River Falls track and field program wrapped up competition at the 2025 WIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, coming away with one individual conference championship, four All-WIAC recognitions, and a men's team score that is tied for the highest in program history.
Sophomore Jacob Balcome led the way for the Falcons, taking home a WIAC championship in the men's decathlon. Yaih Marial and Joe Guthrie (x2) also claimed All-WIAC performances.
As a team, the Falcons placed fifth on the men's side with 44.5 points and the women's team placed seventh with 28 points. The fifth-place finish for the men's team ties the highest ever in program history, and the best team finish since 1994.
2025 WIAC OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
- Coming off an indoor national championship in the men's heptathlon, Jacob Balcome continued his impressive sophomore campaign with a WIAC title in the men's outdoor decathlon. The sophomore totaled 6,802 points, coming just over 100 points shy of the program record that was set earlier in the season by Balcome.
- Balcome placed first in the men's pole vault at 4.15 meters. He was the runner-up in the long jump (6.89 meters ), shot put (11.91 meters), high jump (1.91 meters), 110-meter hurdles (15.64), discus throw (36.24 meters), and 1,500 meters (4:40.87).
- Joe Guthrie had a stellar weekend for UWRF, taking home All-WIAC honors in both the men's javelin and decathlon.
- Guthrie threw 54.44 meters (178-7) to place second overall in the javelin. His throw ranks third in the UWRF record book.
- The freshman totaled 6,508 points in the decathlon, which ranks third all-time at UWRF. Guthrie took home top placements in the javelin (52.63 meters) and 1,500 meters (4:29.55). He was also the runner-up in the high jump with a leap of 1.91 meters.
- Yaih Marial claimed All-WIAC honors in the men's high jump with a runner-up finish. Marial leaped 2.06 meters (6-9) to place second in a competitive field.
- Logan Munson finished just .10 seconds outside of All-WIAC honors, placing fourth in the men's 800 meters with a time of 1:53.50. The career-best time ranks fifth in the UWRF record book.
- Sophomore Laina Viere placed fourth in the women's 10,000 meters, clocking in at 37:19.41. That time is a career best that ranks fourth in the UWRF record book.
- Haylie Rasmussen placed fifth in the women's heptathlon with a score of 4,271, which ranks seventh in the UWRF record book. Her top finish came in the 200 meters, where she placed second with a time of 25.93.
- Brielle Kuechle finished just behind Rasmussen in the heptathlon with a sixth-place score of 4,112, ranking ninth in the record book. Kuechle finished as the runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 5.52 meters.
- In the women' 800 meters, Cailyn Kuechle qualified for the finals and placed sixth with a time of 2:15.87, a new career best that ranks fourth in the UWRF record book.
- Zane Habisch helped add to UWRF's team score with a sixth-place finish in the men's high jump, clearing 1.96 meters (6-5).
- In the women's pole vault, Kalli Jo Klocke placed fifth with a height of 3.65 meters, while Abigail Biggs placed seventh, also clearing 3.65 meters.
- In the women's 1,500 meters, Adison Wilde placed seventh with a time of 4:43.93. Her time is a career best that moved her up to fourth in the Falcon record book.
- Alexis Koch took home an eighth–place finish in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 48.24 meters (158-3). Her score ranks fifth in the UWRF record book.
- Jaidyn McAlpine placed 10th in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:36.01.
