RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls men's soccer team launched its 2025 home campaign with a thrilling 2-1 comeback victory against Wisconsin Lutheran in the season home opener at Ramer Field on Monday, Sept. 1.
The Falcons overcame an early deficit with a strong second-half performance, powered by goals from
Oscar Moline and
Sorel Richardson, to secure the win.
Wisconsin Lutheran took the lead in the 18
th minute when Drew Guess scored off a pass from George O'Connor, putting the Warriors ahead 1-0. Despite an early challenge, the Falcons remained composed, generating four shots in the first half, three on target, but couldn't break through before halftime.
UWRF roared back in the second half, equalizing in the 52
nd minute.
Josh Villanueva delivered a pinpoint pass to
Oscar Moline, who slotted home his first goal of his career to tie the game at 1-1. Just five minutes later, Moline turned provider, setting up
Sorel Richardson for the game winning goal in the 57
th minute. Richardson's strike, his second of the season, gave the Falcons the lead they would not relinquish.
The Falcon's defense, led by goalkeeper
Josh Bates, stood tall in the final stages. Bates made five saves, including four in the second half, to thwart Wisconsin Lutheran's nine second-half shots. The backline, featuring
Carter Eklund,
Chris Perez, and
Mauricio Cuevas, limited the Warriors to just one goal on 12 total shots.
The victory moves UW-River Falls to 1-1-0 on the season, while Wisconsin Lutheran drops to 0-1-1.
UWRF will look to carry this momentum forward when they face off against Lawrence on Thursday at 4 pm on Ramer Field.
