RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls men's soccer team fought back late in the second half to secure a 2-2 draw against St. Scholastica on Thursday, Sept 11, at Ramer Soccer Stadium. Goals from
Oscar Moline and
Mauricio Cuevas bookended the scoring for the Falcons, who overcame a late deficit to extend their unbeaten streak to four games.
UWRF struck early, taking a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute when
Noah Meschke set up
Oscar Moline for his second goal of the season. The Falcons controlled much of the first half, generating nine shots with five on target, but St. Scholastica equalized in the 32
nd minute on a goal by Gabriel Marchesoni. Despite UWRF's five corner kicks in the opening 45 minutes the teams went into halftime tied at 1-1.
The Saints took the lead in the 78
th minute when Tim Bader scored, putting St. Scholastica ahead 2-1. The Falcons responded in the 85
th minute with
Carter Eklund assisting
Mauricio Cuevas for his second of the season to level the score at 2-2. UWRF continued to press, generating six corner kicks in the second half, but couldn't find a winner in the closing moments.
The Falcon defense, led by goalkeeper
Josh Bates, made five saves to hold off St. Scholastica's 11 shots, seven of which were on goal. UWRF finished with 14 shots, nine on target.
The match was physical, with St. Scholastica committing 16 fouls and receiving four yellow cards, while UWRF had seven fouls and three yellows.
The draw moves UW-River Falls to 3-1-1 on the season, while St. Scholastica stands at 0-3-2. The Falcons ability to rally late underscored their resilience as they continue their non-conference schedule.
