RIVER FALLS, Wis. — The No. 1-ranked UW-River Falls women's hockey team closed out its three-game homestand in dominant fashion on Saturday afternoon at Hunt Arena, defeating UW-Stevens Point 8-0 to sweep the Pointers on Senior Day.
The Falcons, now 23-1 overall and 10-1 in the WIAC, conclude the regular season next Saturday, Feb. 21 at UW-Eau Claire with the WIAC regular season title on the line.
UWRF scored in all three periods and saw production throughout the lineup, with six different Falcons finding the back of the net in the shutout victory, led by a hat-trick from Sophia Hess - her second of the season.
Hess paced the offense with five points, followed by a four-point game by Megan Goodreau with a goal and three assists. Katherine Bell added a goal and an assist while Madison Kadrlik, Kaitlyn Ronn, and Alexa Niccum had two assists each.
The Falcons capitalized on special teams, finishing 2-for-4 on the power play, and outshot the Pointers 69-12 on the day.
In goal, Jordan O'Kane earned the shutout, stopping all 12 shots to earn her sixth shutout of the season.
