Falcons Claim Multiple Titles & Podium Finishes on Day Two of WIAC Indoors

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The UW-River Falls track and field teams closed out the second day of the WIAC Indoor Championships with multiple conference champions, All-WIAC performances, and podium finishes as the Falcons continued to add to their team totals in a strong showing on the championship stage. The women's team concluded the meet in sixth place with 30.50 total points followed the men's team who earned 27 total points over the weekend. 

On the men's side, Jacob Balcome claimed the WIAC Championship in the heptathlon, totaling 5,361 points to secure 10 team points for the Falcons - a Williams Fieldhouse facility record and improving up his UWRF indoor program record. Balcome powered his way to event victories in the 60-meter hurdles (8.40), pole vault (4.45m), and 1,000-meter run (2:45.11), sealing the title with a dominant all-around performance.

Yaih Marial added another conference crown, soaring to a first-place finish in the high jump with a clearance of 2.06 meters to earn WIAC Champion honors.

In middle-distance action, Logan Munson finished eighth in the 800-meter run, crossing in 1:55.76 to earn one team point.

For the women, Lauryn Schutz delivered a podium performance in the weight throw, placing third with a mark of 17.55 meters to earn All-WIAC recognition and six team points. Teammate Ali Clifford followed closely behind in fourth, recording a throw of 17.24 meters to add five more points to the Falcons' total.

On the track, Laina Viere secured a sixth-place finish in the 3,000-meter run, clocking a time of 10:21.03 and earning three team points.

In addition to their performances throughout the season, Vincent Nash and Jacee Frank have also been selected to represent UW-River Falls on the WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team. Also, Annika Gunderson was named the women's WIAC Scholar Athlete, receiving the Judy Kruckman Award.

With conference titles, All-WIAC honors, and multiple scoring performances, the Falcons have wrapped up the 2026 WIAC Indoor Championships.
