Balcome Repeats as Decathlon Champion to Lead Falcons at WIAC Championships

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Falcon track and field teams wrapped up competition at the 2026 WIAC Outdoor Championships. Leading the way for the Falcons was Jacob Balcome, who captured the decathlon title for the second consecutive season. 

Balcome totaled 7,158 points across the two-day competition, securing the gold medal while also recording the second-highest score in WIAC Outdoor Championship history. Jacob took the event titles in the 1500m (4:29.04), javelin throw (47.62m), pole vault (4.40m), and shot put (12.75m) in addition to two second-place titles in the high jump (1.89m) and 400m (50.46). 

On the women's multi-event side, Lauren Machacek competed in the heptathlon, finishing 10th overall with a total of 3,858 points. 

In middle-distance action, Wyatt Johnson ran a personal-best time of 4:00.65 in the 1,500 meters, moving into fifth all-time in program history. Tyler Parker also made his mark in the middle-distance events, placing sixth in the 800 meters with a time of 1:52.68. Combined with his prelim time of 1:52.54, Parker now ranks among the top three performers in program history in the event.

In the field events, Ali Clifford led the way with a fifth-place finish in the shot put, recording a throw of 13.09 meters. Georgia Mundt and Maleah Petersen placed back-to-back in fifth and sixth, respectively in the discus throw. Mundt posted a mark of 43.77, while Petersen followed closely with a new personal-best of 43.50.

On the men's side of the throws, Logan Schmidt secured a ninth-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 15.68 meters, rounding out the Falcons' scoring efforts in the field.

In addition to their performances on the track and in the field, Adison Wilde and Yaih Marial were both named to the WIAC All-Sportsmanship team this weekend as well. 

Overall, the Falcons turned in a well-rounded performance at the WIAC Outdoor Championships, highlighted by Balcome's repeat title, multiple scoring finishes, and several marks that etched their way into the program record book.
