RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls men's soccer team opened its 2026 season with a 2-2 draw against Edgewood (RV) Tuesday afternoon at Ramer Soccer Stadium.
The Falcons held the lead for most of the afternoon behind a pair of goals from
Carter Eklund, building a 2-0 advantage early in the second half. The Eagles scored twice in the second half, including the equalizer in the 89th minute.
In the 25th minute,
Ben Harris connected with Eklund for the season's opening goal, giving the Falcons a 1-0 advantage. The Falcons outshot the Eagles 5-1 during the opening 45 minutes and carried a one-goal lead into halftime.
In the 53
rd minute, Eklund found the back of the net once again giving UWRF a 2-0 lead. Edgewood answered just over a minute later, cutting the Falcon lead to 2-1.
The match shifted further in the 65th minute when UWRF was issued a red card, forcing the Falcons to play the final 24-plus minutes down a player. UWRF had the opportunity to regain its two-goal cushion in the 77th minute, but
Sorel Richardson's penalty kick was saved by Edgewood goalkeeper Griffin Meisterheim.
The Falcons continued to withstand Edgewood's second-half pressure until the Eagles found the equalizer with just under a minute remaining. Connor Gage scored off an assist from Beckham Murrow at 89:18 to level the match at 2-2, where the score remained through the final whistle.
Edgewood finished with a narrow 10-9 advantage in shots.
Hunter Berry led the Falcons with three shots, including two on goal, while Eklund totaled two goals on two shots. Harris recorded the Falcons' lone assist.
In net,
Greyson Shiek played all 90 minutes, recording six saves for the Falcons.
UW-River Falls moves to 0-0-1 on the season. The Falcons return to action Saturday, Sept. 5, as they travel to Minneapolis to take on North Central University. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m.
