Falcons Fall 1-0 to Grinnell at Ramer Field

RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls men's soccer team fell 1-0 to Grinnell College Friday evening at Ramer Field, despite holding a 12-6 advantage in shots.

The two sides played through a scoreless opening 45. UWRF generated four shots and four corner kicks in the first half. Goalkeeper Jaime Mata kept the Pioneers off the board with a pair of saves. Elijah Lund produced the Falcons' lone shot on goal of the opening half in the 41st minute, which was stopped by Grinnell goalkeeper Jack Alexander. 

Hunter Berry put an attempt on frame in the 52nd minute, but Alexander made the save to keep the match scoreless. Grinnell broke through shortly after, as Oliver Klemm scored in the 53rd minute off an assist from Samuel Gojjam to give the Pioneers a 1-0 advantage. 

The Falcons continued to search for the equalizer, putting four shots on goal over the next 16 minutes. Ben Harris, Lund and Ravel Martin each tested Alexander, but the Grinnell goalkeeper turned away each opportunity.

UWRF made one final push late in the match. Sorel Richardson recorded an attempt in the 83rd minute before Riley Lindgren put a shot on goal in the 89th, which Alexander saved to preserve the Grinnell lead.

Mata finished with two saves in net for UWRF, while Alexander recorded six saves for the Pioneers.

The Falcons move to 1-2-1 overall and will have a quick turnaround, traveling to Morris, Minn., tomorrow to face Minnesota Morris at 2 p.m.
