MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Falcons team battled Concordia College to a 2-2 draw Sunday afternoon at the Jake Christiansen Athletic Complex.
Victor Vancauteren and Mauricio Cuevas accounted for the pair of Falcon goals, once in each half as UWRF moved to 4-4-2 on the season. The Falcons held a late 2-1 advantage with less than five minutes remaining before the Cobbers responded to even the match.
Concordia struck first just over five minutes into the contest. Liam Weis put the Cobbers ahead 1-0 at the 5:26 mark, with Sekou Gogue and Johan Lizarraga credited with the assists.
The Falcons answered midway through the opening half. After entering the match in the 21st minute, Vancauteren found the back of the net at 29:12, pulling the Falcons even at 1-1. Victor's goal sent the two teams into halftime tied one apiece.
The match remained deadlocked throughout much of the second frame. UWRF generated eight shots, five on goal and three corner kicks during the final 45 minutes.
With just over four minutes remaining, Cuevas broke through and found the back of the net. His second half goal came at 85:53, giving the Falcons their first lead of the match, 2-1. The advantage was short-lived, however, as Concordia's Emmanuel Dukuly answered at 86:51 to tie the match at 2-2.
UWRF had one more opportunity in the 88th minute, but Ben Harris' attempt went wide as the match finished even.
The Falcons held a 15-14 advantage in total shots and a 5-4 edge in corner kicks. Vancauteren led UWRF with one goals on three shots, with Carter Eklund and Ben Harris also adding three shots throughout the match. Goalkeeper Greyson Shiek made five saves over 90 minutes in net.
The Falcons return to Ramer Soccer Stadium this upcoming Friday for their first conference matchup of the season as they take on the Blugolds at 3:30 p.m.
