1997 Hall of Fame Inductees

Patricia J. (Saxton) Blacklock

Pat (Saxton) Blacklock played basketball and volleyball for the Falcons. She earned four basketball and four volleyball letters. After her freshman season (1979) she was named the basketball team's Most Improved Player. Blacklock was named to the All-WWIAC basketball team in 1980, 1981 and 1982. She was named the team's Most Valuable Player all three years. Blacklock was named the volleyball team's Most Valuable Player in 1982. Blacklock still holds several Falcons basketball records: career rebounding average (9.0), most blocked shots in a game (5), most blocked shots in a season (43) and most blocked shots in a career (102). She is also second in season rebounding average (11.4), tied for third in most rebounds in a season (262) and tied for fourth in best field goal percentage in a game (91.7). She earned her degree in 1982. Blacklock currently teaches reading to seventh and eighth grade students in the Cochrane-Fountain City schools.

 

David D. Brandvold

Dave Brandvold was an NCAA Div. III national wrestling champion at 177 pounds in 1985. He earned NCAA Div. III All-American honors for three straight years and won three straight WSUC individual championships. In 1985 he won the John Peterson award given to the Most Valuable wrestler at the WSUC championships. He earned three letters and helped lead the Falcons to three straight WSUC team titles and a third place finish at the 1985 NCAA Div. III national meet. The Falcons finished in the top five of the NCAA Div. III in each season that Brandvold competed. He earned his degree in 1985. He has coached wrestling the past seven seasons at River Falls High School where he is a physical education teacher. He was named the State Coach of the Year in 1997 and was the District 3 Coach of the Year in 1996. He has a 73-22-1 dual meet record, and his teams have won six Big Rivers Conference titles, five regional championships and two sectional titles. Twice his teams have finished second in the state Div. I championships. Brandvold has coached eight individual state champions, nine place winners and 25 state participants.

 

Gregory K. Corning

Greg Corning played football at UWRF from 1984-87. He earned four letters and still holds several individual records. After his senior season the talented, hard-running fullback was named the WSUC's Most Valuable Player by the Milwaukee Journal. He was named to the American Football Coaches Association first All-American team. Corning was named the team's Most Valuable Player, was the Offensive Player of the Year and named to the first All-WSUC team in 1987. After his junior season (1986) he was named the team's Offensive Player of the Year and named to the first All-WSUC team. After the 1985 season he was named to the second All-WSUC team. After his freshman season (1984) he was named the team's Offensive Freshman Player of the Year and named to the All-WSUC second team. Corning helped lead the Falcons to four straight WSUC championships and the team had a 31-8-1 record during his career. He also competed with the indoor track team in 1985 and 1986. He earned his degree in 1989. Corning is the Falcons leader in: career total offense (3,690 yards), career rushing yards (3,690), career rushing attempts (670), career points (320), season points (102, tied with Jim Baier), career touchdowns (52) and season touchdowns (17). He currently is a physical education and health education teacher, and the head football coach in the Pepin Area Schools.

 

Brian J. Keller

Brian Keller finished his wrestling career with a 127-30 record and earned four letters. He was a three-time WSUC individual champion and helped the Falcons to four WSUC team titles. Three times he was an NCAA Div. III All-American and twice he was an NAIA All-American. He placed fourth twice and sixth once in the NCAA championships, and third twice in the NAIA championships. Keller was twice named an NCAA Div. III and NAIA Academic All-American, and was honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America as a GTE Academic All-American. In 1986 he won the John Peterson award as the Most Valuable wrestler at the WSUC championships. In 1986 he was the WSUC Wrestling Scholar-Athlete. He helped the 1985 team to a third place finish in the NCAA Div. III championships. He earned his degree in 1986. Keller is currently a veterinarian with the Countryside Veterinary Clinic in New Richmond.

 

Tom Kubiak

Tom Kubiak earned four wrestling letters from 1970 - 1974. He placed in the WSUC Championships three times. In 1973 he placed second at the NAIA National Championships and in 1974 he placed third at the same meet. He was the team's Most Valuable Wrestler in 1972 and 1973 and was the team captain in 1973 and 1974. Kubiak, who graduated from Pulaski High School, coached wrestling at Menomonee Falls East High School (1976-80) where his 1980 team placed fifth in the state. He coached 10 state place winners. He also coached at Mauston High School (1981-84) where his 1984 team placed fifth in the state. He coached eight state place winners and one state champion. He earned his degree in 1976. Kubiak currently is a teacher for the California Youth Authority.

 

Ken Lee

Ken Lee earned four basketball letters while playing for the Falcons from 1962-66. He was named to the All-WSU team for three straight years and finished with 1,316 career points. He is currently sixth on the all-time scoring list at UWRF. He has been very active in the River Falls community throughout his life and is the president of the Ken Lee Agency. He was selected as the Western Wisconsin Realtor of the Year in 1978. Lee is a past member of the UWRF Foundation. He earned his degree in 1966.

 

Michael J. Mayasich

Michael Mayasich earned four hockey letters while playing for the Falcons from 1975-79. After transferring from the University of Minnesota in his freshman season, he finished second in scoring (32 points). He led the Falcons in scoring in the 1976-77 season (45) and 1977-78 season (43). In the 1978-79 season he finished third in scoring (53). He helped the Falcons to four straight appearances in the NAIA National Championships, and was named to the All-NAIA team in 1978-79 when he scored three goals and had two assists. Mayasich is currently second in all-time scoring at UWRF (171 points) and is second in all-time assists (115). He earned his degree in 1979. Mayasich is currently a sales representative for the Wilcox Paper Company.
