1981 Hall of Fame Inductees

Philip Belfiori
Philip Belfiori was the Falcons athletic director from 1951-56. He also coached football and basketball at the university. He coached football from 1951-56 and basketball from 1951-55. He inspired and attained winning traditions in athletics and insisted that academics receive first priority. He also coached three conference championship winning teams at Stillwater, Minn. High School.

 

Ernest Brickner
Ernest Brickner was a three-time letter winner in football at the university in 1932, 33 and 34. The 1933 team won the conference championship and he was elected captain of the 1934 team. He was also named to the all Northern Conference as a fullback in 1933 and 1934. He led the conference in scoring in 1934 and averaged 5.8 yards a carry that year. He coached two high school basketball and baseball conference winning teams at Independence and Ellsworth, a football conference championship team at Colfax and a boxing championship team at Ellsworth.

 

Dwight Chinnock
Dwight Chinnock was a four-time letter winner in football at the university in 1918-20 and 1922. He was named to the all-conference team as an end in 1920. He was also a member of the basketball team in 1918-20 and 1922. River Falls won the Northern Conference title in 1918-20, and 22. He was a second team all conference center in 1922. He also served as UW-Stout's faculty Athletic Representative form 1942-69 to the Wisconsin State University Conference.

 

Dan Collins
Dan Collins lettered in swimming in 1968-71 at the university. He set six varsity records in six events. He received NAIA national recognition during the 1969-70 season. He also broke five Wisconsin State University Conference records in 1970.

 

Donald Field
Donald Field earned three letters in basketball at the university in 1921-23. He was a guard on the 1923 Falcons state championship team. He was also named to the 1923 all-State team and he was the captain of the 1924 team.

 

James Hallen
James Hallen lettered four years in football in 1956-59. The 1958 Falcon team won the conference championship. He also played golf for the Falcons in 1957-60.

 

W. H. Hunt
W. H. Hunt earned three letters in football at the university in 1927-29. He was a member of the state championship winning teams of 1927 and 28. He also played basketball in 1927-29 and helped the Falcons to state titles all three years. He led the Falcons in scoring all three years. Hunt was named to the all-State team as a forward in 1928 and 29. He has also received the UW-River Falls Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1969.

 

Colonel Larson
Colonel Larson played football at the university for three years, in 1937-39. He helped the Falcons to the 1938 conference championship. He was named to the all-conference team as an end in 1939. He is the only UW-River Falls football player to play in the College All-Star game. He played end in the 1939 game. He also lettered in basketball in 1937-39, track in 1937-39, and swimming in 1938. After recovering from polio, he became the world's Rifle Champion in 1960. He was a holder of six world indoor records.

 

Michael "Mick" Lauber
Mick Lauber lettered four years at the university in football in 1957-60. He was a member of the conference championship winning 1958 team. He was named to the all-conference team as a halfback in 1958-60. He led the conference in scoring in 1958 and 59. He also played basketball in 1957-60. He was listed in the Who's Who in Small College Basketball. He played baseball in 1959-61 and in 1960 he pitched a no-hitter against Bemidji.

 

Laurin Keith McChesney
Laurin Keith McChesney lettered in football at the university in 1932-34. He was named to the all-State team as an end in 1932 and to the all-Northern Conference team as an end in 1933. He also played basketball and baseball in 1932-34. He coached, was a guidance counselor and athletic director at Cornell High School from 1937-57. His football teams won 10 conference titles and had over a .700 winning percentage. He won over 75 percent of his teams' basketball games he coached and led them to 10 conference titles. His teams also won 13 district championships.

 

Pat Mrotek
Pat Mrotek lettered four years at the university in wrestling in 1959-60 and 62-63. he won his weight division at the 1962 and 1963 conference wrestling meets and helped the Falcons to win the conference team titles in 1960-63. He was named to the NAIA All-American team in 1963.

 

E. P. Rock
E. P. Rock earned three letters in football at the university in 1916-18. He helped the Falcons win the 1916 and 1917 conference championships. He also lettered in basketball in 1917 and 18. He also received the UW-River Falls Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1962.

 

Vern Woodward
Vern Woodward lettered in five sports at the university. He earned letters in football in 1930-32, basketball in 1931-33, swimming in 1934, baseball in 1931-33, and boxing in 1931-33. He was the head boxing coach of the Pan-American team in 1963 and 1975 and was the assistant coach and trainer of the United States Olympic boxing team from 1948-60.
