Klara (Lyon) Berghuis joined the UW-River Falls track and field coaching staff in the fall of 2021 upon graduation from North Dakota State University.
At NDSU, Berghuis was a six-year member and two-year team captain of the track and field team as a pole vaulter. She ranks among the NDSU top 10 in indoor and outdoor women's pole vault, including a career-best mark of 13'3'' at the Summit League Indoor Championships in 2019.
Off the field, Klara was a three-time Bison Academic Excellence award winner, three-time USTFCCCA All-Academic team member, and a two-time Bison Academic Performance award winner. She also helped coach at the NDSU Pole Vault Camps during her time as a student-athlete.
Berghuis received a bachelor's degree in exercise science from NDSU in 2019 and completed her master's degree in gerontology in 2021. She is a native of Piedmont, S.D. and was a two-time South Dakota Class AA state pole vault champion for Sturgis Brown High School.
