Ahlstrom came to UW-River Falls after four years as an assistant coach at South High School in Minneapolis, Minn. She helped guide the team to a 79-33 record while securing a Minneapolis Conference Championship each season. In 2017-18, the team reached 6AAAA section finals while Ahlstrom directed the JV team to a Twin Cities Championship.

In addition to the team's success, Ahlstrom was also instrumental in the development of many individual players, including three-time Minneapolis Conference Player of the Year Morgan Hill. All told, Ahlstrom helped oversee 15 All-Conference honorees, one All-State player, and four players who went on to play collegiately.

Katie graduated from Augsburg University where she played in 91 career games, shooting 36% from three-point range over her career, and was a team captain for three seasons.
Ahlstrom resides in Hudson, WI with her fiancé, Matt.
