The Falcon soccer team defeated Bethany Lutheran College, 2-,0 on Tuesday afternoon at Ramer Field.
The Falcons used a concrete defense and scored early to shut down the Vikings. The Falcons dominated the play and outshot the Vikings 30-2. The Falcons netted both of their goals in the first half.
Riki Dornfeld (Hugo, MN, White Bear Lake) started the Falcons scoring with her first collegiate goal. It came 29:43 into the game and she scored unassisted. Dornfeld beat the BLC goalie with a pinpoint shot from just outside the box.
Almost six minutes later, Janae Baron (Hermantown, MN, Hermantown) scored her sixth goal of the season. She was assisted by Carlin Bunting (Cottage Grove, MN, Hastings). Bunting crossed the ball to the middle and Baron headed it home.
Alyssa Manor (Stillwater, MN, Stillwater) led the Falcons with seven shots. Baron finished with six shots and led the team with four shots on goal.
Rachel Thompson (Cedar Falls, IA, Cedar Falls) earned the win in goal, stopping both shots on goal. It marked her fifth shutout of the season and the 10th of her collegiate career. BLC goalie Alexa Mowery stopped 10 shots.
The Falcons had 14 corner kicks while the Vikings had none. Bethany also committed three fouls to UWRF's one.
The Falcons are now 3-0-0 in the all-time series against the Vikings.
The Falcons improve to 10-6 overall and they are 4-3 in the WIAC. Meanwhile Bethany Lutheran drop to 9-4-2.
Up next for the Falcons is a non-conference matchup at home against the College of St. Benedict. Game time is 3 p.m. on Sunday at Ramer Field.
