Falcons Fall in WIAC Semifinal Shootout at Platteville

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. –  The UW-River Falls women's soccer team saw its season come to a close Friday night, falling in penalty kicks to UW-Platteville after 110 minutes of scoreless action in the WIAC Tournament Semifinals at Pioneer Stadium. The Pioneers advanced 5–3 in the shootout.

The Falcons (13–5–3) battled through an evenly matched contest as neither team could break through in regulation or either overtime, as goalkeeper Courtney Bain turned in another stellar performance with six saves to record her fourth shutout of the season.

UWRF generated eight total shots in regulation with Gretchen Hanson tallying a team-high three shots, including one-on-goal. Lauren Gregory added two attempts, one on net, while Brooke McDaniel, Sarah Wagner and Emery Bigler each contributed one shot a piece for the Falcon offense.

After two overtimes, Platteville converted all five of its penalty attempts, while UWRF went 3-for-4 with goals from Gregory, Bigler, and Lexi Atkinson.

Under head coach Sean McKuras, the Falcons close another strong campaign that included 13 victories, the most since 2003, a second straight WIAC semifinal appearance, seven all-conference selections and Coaching Staff of the Year.
