The Falcon soccer team went into two overtimes at home Tuesday agianst St. Scholastic and the match ended in a 2-2 tie.
Dispite rain and heavey winds both teams played a back and fourth game. The Falcons got on the board first with a goal coming from
Jackie Rosenholm (Esko, MN, Esko) at the 36 minute mark of the first half. The goal was Rosenholm's first goal of the season.
Near the end of the second half things went crazy. Anderea Beatt from St. Scholastica tied the game with 11 minutes left. Just four minutes after St Scholastic tied the game,
Alyssa Manor (Stillwater, MN, Stillwater) score to but the Falcons in the lead. But, St. Scholastic wasn't ready to be done. Scholastica's Julianne Levich scored to tie the game again with only five minutes left.
Neither team could score in the two overtime periods which offically ended the game in a 2-2 tie.
The teams decided to go to a shootout. to see who would claime the Chalice Cup. River Falls won the shootout 3-2.
Eryn Lansverk (White Bear Lake, MN, White Bear Lake) Carlin Bunting (Cottage Grove, MN, Hastings) and
Cassie Stang (Stillwater, MN, Mahtomedi) scored.UWRF goalie
Becca Kramer (St. Michael, MN, St. Michael/Albertville) made three saves in the shootout and three in the overtime periods.
Rachel Thompson started in goal for the Falcons and made seven saves in 90 minutes of action. CSS goalie, Bailey Mahlum, stopped six shots. Molly Bergmann was in goal for the shootout.
The Falcons had a 10-1 advantage in corners. The Saints finished with a 17-13 advantage in shots. CSS finished with 18 fouls and UWRF had 14.
In the last five meetings between St. Scholastic and River Falls all five games have gone into overtime (two of which ended in a tie; two Scholastic won and River Falls won one).The Falcons lifetime recored against Scholastic is now 2-3-2.
River Falls, now 10-7-1 overall, will play a WIAC game at UW-Oshkosh in the last regular season game.
